The silence that has evoked from the marginalized community of women, has just begun traction in advocating for more prevention for femicide. Throughout history, as Edwin Ardener described, women are a group that is often silenced by society. The pressing issue of femicide has enabled women to begin breaking the silence to call for action. This article discusses the importance of understanding how the term femicide has originated and changed over the past years. The term femicide originally corresponded to address acts motivated by the patriarchy and misogynist cultures, and now after the United Nations of Vienna has proposed a more broad term for femicide that is inclusive and descriptive in the crimes in nature that had taken place. Shedding light on the issue of femicide is just one way to continue to fight for justice for a silenced group.
