2024 study on Identifying femicide using the UN statistical framework

International Sociology

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This study is the first application of the UN's statistical framework on gender-related killings of women and girls (femicide/feminicide). Using a sample from one country (Canada) and publicly accessible data sources, this article examines the presence of sex/gender-related motives and indicators. The results demonstrate support for the statistical framework. Findings about the feasibility of documenting sex/gender-related motives and indicators generally and for specific groups of women and girls are discussed.
