Chapter 14: Femicide in Brazil

Book Publication

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This chapter will discuss the current legal and social landscape of feminicide in Brazil, showcasing how the country addresses this form of gender-based violence (GBV). Through analysing both the letter of the law and the studies done around its application, and comparing it with the latest statistics available, the chapter demonstrates that the application of the law is far from uniform and that mechanisms of collecting and reporting on the crime are lacking. Such failures have important policy implications and highlight which populations are more at risk within the scenario of gender violence in Brazil.
